Takoma Children’s School (TCS) is a progressive year-round preschool serving 2 to 5 year-old children and their families with part-time through full-day options.  We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and are strongly play-based in our approach to children’s learning.  Our school’s outstanding teachers and staff provide a nurturing, safe, and fun-filled environment that fosters creativity and a love of learning through play and exploration. We value each child’s unique needs and contributions, as we foster social, emotional, physical, and thinking skills that children will need and use throughout their lives. Our TCS family is committed to celebrating and reflecting the diversity of our community. We have a large, tree covered playground so being outside is important for our children, as they are outside morning and late afternoon, for at least an hour each time. We have a large sandbox, a few different climbing options, a playhouse for dramatic play, space to ride tricycles, and smaller spaces where children can be alone or with a few friends. Our playground is outfitted with many loose parts that children use for imaginative play. Each classroom gardens each year, growing gourds, tomatoes, flowers and more!

Class offerings:

  • 2’s/3’s:  3, 4, or 5 full days/week
  • 3’s/4’s:  3, 4, or 5 full days/week
  • 4’s/5’s:  5 full days/week
  • Our school is open 8am to 6pm – we do not offer half days, but children typically arrive between 8am and 9:30am and leave between 5pm and 5:45pm.

Enrichment offerings: weekly music and yoga classes for all classrooms as part of tuition; 3-5 yr olds may participate in violin lessons through Music Kids
