Profile: The Clara Barton Center for Children is a fully licensed non-profit daycare established to facilitate learning through play by providing a varied, developmentally appropriate program that nurtures creativity and exploration and fosters children’s social development. We provide quality, comprehensive, and child-centered learning environments and child care services for children ages 2–5 years. We are accredited by the Maryland State Dept. of Education and hold an MD EXCELS level 5 rating. There are currently 71 children enrolled in our center. We value a curriculum that emerges from the needs and interests of children and teachers; parents as partners in documenting children’s learning; diversity in cultural background, learning styles, and expressed opinions; a sense of community in the classroom, in the staff room, and in our neighborhood; active participation of staff and parents in center-wide decisions; continuity and stability in relationships between children and their teachers; openness and directness in interpersonal relations at every level of the organization; and respect for oneself and others; and respect for the environment inside and outside of the classroom. Financial assistance is available, and we accept County and State Child Care Subsidy Vouchers.
